Serious models and photographers should really hav etheir own website and their own domain name. This looks much more professional and you have more control over the layout and information than you do if you use a free website. It's not expensive either - you can do it for around $50/year.
However there are some free websites which any model or photographer (even those who have their own website) can use for self promotion. These websites usually offer free portfolio hosting for models and photographers, though some also have premium services for which a fee is charged. It's not a bad idea to join several free sites to reach a larger audience. You really don't need to take out "premium" memberships to start with. Just take their free user option.You may get some paying work through these sites, but mostly they provide a source of photographers and models who will offer TFP/TFCD (time for prints or time for CD), where photographers provide images to the model at no cost in exchange for modeling services.
