Glamour Modeling

The problem is defining what glamour photography is - and making sure that both the photographer and the model agree on the definition BEFORE the photo shoot.

"Glamour" can cover a wide range so both photographer and model need to discuss what "glamour" means to them before they get into the studio

Glamour Photography normally covers the following styles:

• "Beauty" photography - fully clothed, but with makeup and lighting designed to flatter the model

• Swimsuit - the model in a bikini or one-piece swimsuit

• Lingerie - the model in underwear, which can range from the modest to the exotic, fully covering to shear.

• Boudoir Photography - Similar to lingerie, but usually with the model in a bedroom setting. "Boudoir Photography" a term often used for photography of women who want the images for their personal use rather than publication. It's really "sexy" portrait work often taken to be shared with a husband or boyfriend.

• Partial Nudity (a.k.a. Topless) - this means the model's breasts are shown.

• Implied Nudity - this means that the model may not appear to be be wearing any clothes, she uses her hands or other "props" to cover her "private" areas.

In the minds of some photographers it can also cover more adult material, so clearly it is VERY important that there is no confusion here, so always state exactly what YOU mean by "glamour" when arranging a shoot and make sure you know what anyone else involved means by "glamour".

Models should always ask to see samples of a photographers work in the style they will be shooting. Ask the photographer for examples of their glamour work. If you don't like what you see, don't shoot with them.
